Fish, Hunt, Explore, and Mine are Loot Actions. Each has its own item pool and timer. Work gives BC directly. Your first reliable source of materials is using these actions regularly; pets later complement them rather than replacing every reason to act.

Action Typical purpose Base ready time Base full charge
Fish Pet food and aquatic ingredients 30 seconds 5 minutes
Hunt Food and hunting ingredients 42 seconds 7 minutes
Explore Logs plants and crafting materials 1 minute 10 minutes
Mine Ores minerals and industrial materials 2 minutes 20 minutes
Work Spendable BC 6 minutes 1 hour

These are base timings. Effects such as Recovery can change when an action becomes available. The ready state means you may use an action; a full bar means it has reached maximum charge. Loot yield scales with charge. You can play frequently or return for fuller bars without needing to click constantly.

Upgrade your tools

Each Loot Action has a tool. Normal upgrades add 0.1 to that tool's base multiplier per level, up to natural level 50. Open the tool to inspect its next recipe and the materials you are missing. Upgrade the action whose extra output would help your immediate goals, while keeping the other tools moving forward.

Forbidden Modifiers improve a natural level 50 tool beyond that limit. Their benefit has diminishing returns as more are applied to the same tool; do not assume each adds a fixed whole level forever.

Use the right source for the goal

Open an item to see its sources and uses. If a quest needs an action-found item, buying it or collecting it from a pet does not substitute for finding it through the required action. If you need materials for a purchase, those other sources can still be useful.

An action suddenly becoming ready can come from a Personal Boost, an Amnesiac effect, a Pulsator, a Snowflake, or Recovery. Check the action's feedback in the Console and your active effects to see what triggered it. The same feedback may also appear in chat or popups, depending on your settings.
