Tools set the base multiplier of your Loot Actions. There is one Tool for each of Fish, Hunt, Explore and Mine, and you upgrade each one on its own. Work does not use a Tool.

Takes in Items for each upgrade
Produces A permanent multiplier on one Loot Action
Extended by Forbidden Modifiers and Gemerald Augments, both from level Missing game reference: maxLv
Affected by The Lapidist Prestige perk, and the Specials you own

Levels and multiplier

A Tool's multiplier is 1 plus Missing game reference: multPerLv for every level. Every Tool starts at level 1. The highest natural level is Missing game reference: maxLv, which gives a Tool multiplier of 6x on that Action before any other source is counted.

The Tool multiplier stacks with every other source by multiplication. See Boosts.

Upgrading

Each upgrade needs a recipe of Items. These are Items you find or craft, not BC, and the recipe is shown in the Tool's window with what you are missing.

  • The recipe changes as you climb. Every five levels is a new stage of the Tool, with a new name, a new look and a different mix of ingredients.
  • The total value of the ingredients rises steeply with each level. Early levels are cheap and the last levels are expensive.
  • Each Item's info card lists which Tool upgrades need it.
  • The upgrade window has a Craft automatically switch. When it is on, any missing ingredient that can be crafted is crafted for you from what you own.
  • Upgrade to level needs enough ingredients to reach the chosen level in one go. Max upgrades as far as your ingredients allow.

Beyond level 50

Once a Tool is at its natural top level, two things can push its multiplier higher.

Forbidden Modifiers

A Forbidden Modifier is a Special that permanently adds extra levels to a level Missing game reference: maxLv Tool. Each Modifier adds less than the one before it on the same Tool, so the first few help the most and piles of them give small gains. Counts are kept per Tool.

Gemerald Augments

A Gemerald used on a level Missing game reference: maxLv Tool becomes a temporary Augment on it. An Augment multiplies that Action for a limited time.

Gemerald Action multiplier Time added per Gemerald
Green 1.25x 15 minutes
Amber 1.5x 30 minutes
Purple 1.75x 45 minutes
Red 2x 1 hour
  • Each Tool has no Augment slots until you buy the Lapidist Prestige perk. Every level of Lapidist gives each Tool one slot, up to a total of four.
  • Each colour on a Tool takes one slot. Using the same colour again extends its time and does not stack a second multiplier.
  • Different colours on the same Tool stack with each other, as long as you have slots for them.
  • Augments are managed in the Tool's window once it reaches level Missing game reference: maxLv.
  • The Pluperfect Gemerald is not a Tool Augment. See Gemeralds.

How Tools connect to other features

  • Boosts: the Tool multiplier is the base that every other source multiplies.
  • Prestige: Lapidist adds Augment slots.
  • Achievements: Tool levels and Forbidden Modifiers count toward Achievements, and Achievements can reward Forbidden Modifiers. Quests can reward them too.
  • Items: the ingredients come from your Loot Actions, the Farm, crafting and the Market.
