Ranks are the core way your account progresses. There are Missing game reference: totalRanks ranks, from Peasant at the bottom to God at the top. A higher rank raises your Work pay, and reaching certain ranks lets you unlock new features.
| Takes in | BC for each rank |
|---|---|
| Produces | A higher rank number, which multiplies Work pay, and feature unlocks |
| Next step | Ascension once you reach God |
| Affected by | Your Ascension Tier and the Nepotism Prestige perk |
What a rank does
Your rank number is multiplied straight into your Work earnings. At rank 21 your Work pays 21 times the base amount. Ranks are therefore one of the biggest long-term investments for BC income. Ranks do not change what Loot Actions give. See Boosts for how the Work multiplier is made up.
Ranking up
Ranking up costs BC.
- The cost of each rank rises along a steep curve. God is the only rank that reaches the top cost of 200 million BC. Every earlier rank costs less.
- Each Ascension Tier makes every rank cost more. At Tier 1 each rank costs twice as much as in the first climb, at Tier 2 three times as much, and so on.
- You can rank up several ranks at once if you can afford them.
- The Tier / Rank control sets a destination to climb to. Use Tier 0 to aim at a rank in your first climb, before any Ascension. The destination must be ahead of your current progress.
- The Nepotism Prestige perk lowers rank costs by up to Missing game reference: nepotismMaxDiscount% at its top level.
| Rank | Cost to reach it in your first climb (about) |
|---|---|
| Farmhand (rank 2) | 21,000 BC |
| Chanticleer (rank 10) | 1.1 million BC |
| Dandy (rank 20) | 7.8 million BC |
| Marquis (rank 31) | 28 million BC |
| Technocrat (rank 39) | 56 million BC |
| Harbinger (rank 47) | 98 million BC |
| Postmortal (rank 54) | 148 million BC |
| God (rank 60) | 200 million BC |
Feature unlocks
Reaching a rank or Tier makes you eligible for a feature. Then you open the feature's page and press Unlock. An unlock is kept for good, even after an Ascension sends your rank back to Peasant. After you Ascend, every rank requirement counts as met.

Pages are shown step by step. A page is revealed only once the one before it in the table has been unlocked, and the next locked page is shown as a preview. The Market is for Main profiles and the Supply Depot is for Ironman and Hardcore profiles. Hardcore profiles have no Factions or Ball Pit, so those steps are skipped. See Profile Modes.
Selling Items to climb
For Farm, Pets, Factions, the Market and the Museum, your first climb can be funded partly by Items. Instead of paying BC only, the rank-up window can count the value of your inventory and sell Items at their base value to cover what you are missing, but only while you are still short of that feature's requirement.
