Gemeralds are valuable gems that come in four colours (Green, Amber, Purple and Red) plus the rarer Pluperfect Gemerald. They are used to boost Tools for a while and to pay for late Relay Network progression and Transmutation conversions.

Getting gemeralds

  • Gem Bags are opened from your inventory and give random coloured gemeralds. Green is the most common colour and Red the rarest. Tiny, Small and full Gem Bags exist, and bigger bags hold more gems.
  • Prospecting: adventuring Pets bring back Gem Bags.
  • A full Gem Bag can also drop as a Rare Item, and Bosses such as Minibosses can reward bags to a lucky damage dealer.
  • Pluperfect Gemeralds are a Rare Item drop, and Minibosses can give one random damage dealer a few of them.
  • Transmutation converts between colours and Pluperfect, see below.
  • They can also be bought and sold on the Market.

Tool augments

The Lapidist Prestige perk lets you augment Tools with the four coloured gemeralds. Using a gemerald on a Tool gives that Tool a temporary action multiplier for a limited time.

  • The Tool must be at its natural top level (level 50) before you can add or extend an augment.
  • Each Lapidist level adds one augment slot per Tool, up to four.
  • A new colour uses up a slot on that Tool. Using the same colour again extends its time instead of adding a second multiplier.
  • Gemeralds are consumed one at a time.
Gemerald Tool multiplier Time added per gem
Green 1.25x 15 minutes
Amber 1.5x 30 minutes
Purple 1.75x 45 minutes
Red 2x 1 hour

Augments are timed, so plan an active session before spending them.

Pluperfect Gemeralds

A Pluperfect Gemerald is not a Tool augment. It is used in advanced Relay progression and in Transmutation, so do not base-sell it. Late Recovery and other Bay Modules and upgrades have gemerald costs, including Pluperfect.

Transmutation

Transmutation changes gemeralds between colours, so you can turn what you have into what a Bay or upgrade needs:

  • Lower colours can be combined upward (Green, Amber, Purple, then Red), and higher colours broken back down at a loss.
  • One of each of the four colours makes one Pluperfect Gemerald, and Pluperfect can be split back into colours.
  • Pluperfect is also used in some Boost upscale recipes there.
