Prospecting is a passive way for adventuring Pets to dig up gemeralds. It happens on its own while a Pet works its preferred Adventure, so there is nothing to click.
Familiarity
Familiarity builds as a Pet adventures on its specialization (Mine, Explore or Hunt). It is shown on the Pet's items bar as "Familiarity: N%". It tends to rise but can also dip, and the more productive the Pet is, the faster it grows. Fish specialists never prospect, unless the Pet carries the Ravenous curse from the Pyre, which lets a Fish specialist prospect while working Fish.
Striking a vein
When Familiarity reaches 100%, the items bar is replaced by a dig bar that fills over one work window. The Pet keeps finding its normal Items, and the energy it spends finding them advances the dig.
- A Pet that goes idle or runs out of energy pauses its dig and resumes later.
- Sending it to a different job cancels the dig and resets its Familiarity.
The payoff
When the dig finishes the Pet brings back exactly one thing:
- A Tiny Gem Bag most of the time.
- A larger Small Gem Bag or a full Gem Bag if the Pet is strong. Higher level and higher Tier Pets get bigger bags more often.
- Occasionally a lump of Coal instead. Coal is more likely to replace the bigger bags. Ravenous Pets never get Coal.
Open Gem Bags from your inventory to claim the Gemeralds inside. Familiarity then resets to a low value and the Pet starts toward the next vein.
Busy fleets
When many of your Pets are prospecting at the same time, each builds Familiarity more slowly. Gem finds grow gently with the size of your fleet instead of without limit. A handful of Pets is barely affected.
Connections
- Needs Pets on Adventures, see Pets.
- Gemeralds feed Tools augments, Relay Network progression and Transmutation.
- Other gemerald sources are Rare Items and Minibosses (see Bosses).
