Specials are a separate class from ordinary Items. Each one is tracked individually and can carry its own attributes, such as an expiry date, a target action or a pet species. Some types can be found from Loot Actions. They do not stack like Items, although identical copies can be grouped on the interface, and in most cases they cannot be given to other players.
Specials can provide effects beyond normal play. Calibrated Amplifiers and Arbitrary Amplifiers boost Actions, while Noetic Pulsators reset Action cooldowns. Forbidden Modifiers raise Tool Multipliers beyond their natural limit.
Where they come from
[edit | edit source]Specials are mostly handed out by events and limited rewards: seasonal Quests rewards, Achievements, Bosses prizes, Burn leaderboard prizes and the Special Store. You do not need to be a late game player to get one, so watch the current events.
Types
[edit | edit source]| Special | Effect |
|---|---|
| Arbitrary Amplifier | When activated, broadcasts a 2x Action Boost signal for a type of your choice to all online players for 20 minutes! A combined total of two Calibrated and Arbitrary Amplifiers can be active at once for a type of Action. |
| Auralyzer | A curious device used to irradiate living creatures. Unless otherwise noted, a random base Aura is applied to an owned Pet of your choosing when this is used. |
| Calibrated Amplifier | When activated, broadcasts a 2x Action Boost signal for its type to all online players for 20 minutes! Only one Calibrated Amplifier can be active at once for a type of Action. After a Calibrated Amplifier is used, an hour must pass before another one can be used for the same Action. |
| Fairy Ring | You can feel something supernatural pulling you toward this odd arrangement of fungi. When used, permanently increases your Farm plots by 1 without impacting future upgrade costs. |
| Forbidden Modifier | Even smithing masters dare not touch this cursed artifact. When used, permanently applies one Forbidden Modifier to a Level 50 Tool, increasing its Multiplier beyond its natural cap. Levels gained per Modifier decrease as more are applied per-tool. |
| Genesis Egg | This egg's origins are an enigma. Unless otherwise noted, a new Generation I Pet of a random base species is created when used. Skin (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, Zeta and Eta) chances for the created Pet are 5x higher than the base probabilities. Pet storage limits are bypassed by this Special. |
| Golden Lariat | A lasso imbued with heavenly power that forces its target into submission. When used, permanently increases the number of Pets that can Adventure at once by 1 without impacting future Stable upgrade costs. |
| Noetic Pulsator | When activated, broadcasts an amnesic pulse that resets all Action cooldowns (Fish, Hunt, Explore, Mine, Work) fully for all users! A global cooldown of 5 minutes must pass before the next Pulsator can be used. |
| Skinulator | Trust me, you don't want to know how this thing works. The Skin specified for this Special is applied to an owned Pet of your choosing when this is used. |
| XenoServer | This expansion slot is compatible with your existing systems, but the pulsating green material it's made of probably didn't come from your earthly suppliers. When used, permanently adds 1 module slot to a Relay bay of your choosing. The material cost of crafting into that slot is waived. On the Mint bay, the full Salvage cost is also waived - on all other bays, half the Salvage cost is covered, but the remaining Salvage still scales with your total module count. |
Removed Specials
[edit | edit source]Former Specials include Overloaded Amplifier, Mercurial Amplifier and Forged Banknote. See Category:Removed specials for historical articles.
Using Specials
[edit | edit source]- Several types can be used many at a time: Forbidden Modifiers, Fairy Rings, Golden Lariats, Genesis Eggs and XenoServers (once you choose a Tool or Bay).
- Copies that expire soonest are used first.
- Check each Special's expiry and attributes before using it. Copies of the same type can differ.
Global and self-only
[edit | edit source]Calibrated Amplifiers, Arbitrary Amplifiers and Noetic Pulsators have shared effects: using one affects every online player on your profile type. Main and Ironman have separate shared boost pools, so an effect from one does not reach the other.
Hardcore profiles receive no shared effects. Hardcore players can still get self-only copies of these Specials, which apply to their own profile alone. See Profile Modes.
Players often organise a "party" where several Amplifiers and Pulsators are used together with Boss activity. Announce a Pulsator in chat first so others can use their ready actions.
Connections
[edit | edit source]- Specials affect Actions, Tools, the Farm, Pets and the Relay Network.
- They are separate from Items and cannot be sold on the Market.
- Item Boosts and Specials both work on actions; see Boosts.
