The Cooling Bay is the Relay Network Bay that removes heat from your other Bays. It makes no BC or Salvage. Instead it burns Cryo Gel to produce cooling supply, which flows to your Mint, Refinery and Recovery Bays.
| Takes in | Cryo Gel |
|---|---|
| Produces | Cooling supply for your other Bays |
| Cools | Mint, Refinery and Recovery, once a Bay passes 50% heat |
| Affected by | Relay Research (Thermal Routing), Bay Upgrades |
How cooling is shared
[edit | edit source]- Cooling only reaches a Bay once that Bay's heat passes the halfway mark. Below that it relies on its own passive cooling.
- Supply is split evenly between the Bays that need it. The Thermal Routing Research node lets you weight it toward the Bay you care about most.
- More and higher-level Modules produce more supply. The Cooling Output Efficiency upgrade raises it further.
- A Cooling Bay only runs Off or Normal. It has no Underclocked or Overclocked mode, and makes no heat of its own.
Cryo Gel
[edit | edit source]Cryo Gel is the Cooling Bay's fuel. It is crafted from Frostsac (from Hunt) and Insulating Resin (from Explore).
The Cryo Gel tank holds a set number of hours of supply at your current burn rate, so levelling Modules does not make your stockpile run out sooner. If the tank runs dry, cooling drops to a tenth of normal until you refill it.
Cryo Gel is not the same as DX Coolant. Cryo Gel fuels the Cooling Bay over time; DX Coolant is a one-off item you apply to a single hot Bay.
Surge Capacitor
[edit | edit source]Cooling supply that no Bay needs is normally wasted. The Surge Capacitor upgrade banks part of it. The banked reserve is spent only on Bays cooling down after an Overclock burst, helping them recover faster.
