== Generation and lineage ==

A pet's '''Generation''' says how far it descends from the original pets. When a pet hatches, its Generation is the higher parent's Generation plus one. A lower Generation is therefore rarer, and higher Generations are more common. Generation is lineage only and has nothing to do with strength or [[Pet Leveling#Reincarnation|Tier]].

Every pet's parents can be traced back to its Generation I ancestors. Generation I pets came from the early prototype pet system, so they are extremely rare and cannot be made by normal breeding. Their rarity makes them wanted by collectors.
